Urgent: once again, my tips can save lives
By WDavidStephenson | February 6, 2008
This time, the locus of extreme weather is the South, with killer tornadoes throughout the region.
First off, the Energizer Bunny of emergency response, the American Red Cross’s Ike Pigott, is already on the case. He’s already set up a new site devoted to tornado response (the site also includes RSS feeds (and email alerts) for Tennessee Red Cross response in general, Memphis, Nashville, and Jackson). Ike, one of the experts who really get it about Twitter (along with the LAFD’s Brian Humprey, also is doing Tweets about twister response. Props to Ike!
Secondly, a reminder (Please pass this on to friends and relatives in the tornadoes’ path!) that my “21st century disaster tips you WON’T hear from officials,” such as using Twitter instead of voice messages or using CUWiN software to create instant neighborhood networks, can save lives and help neighbors help neighbors by letting “the wisdom of crowds” emerge.
