et al.: compare Clinton and Obama Super Tuesday remarks
By WDavidStephenson | February 6, 2008
Back with another head-to-head Many Eyes comparison of Clinton’s and Obama’s speeches: in this case their remarks after Super Tuesday. Unlike the brief opening statements before the California debates, these were lengthy enough to perhaps give some insights into their priorities. Note that Obama’s remarks were considerably longer than Clinton’s (452 vs. 298), so it’s only possible to compare relative weight given to certain words. That being said, here are a few of my observations:
- Obama used “time” most often, as part of a rhetorical “our time has come” theme — perhaps to emphasize the historic potential of electing an African-American.
- Perhaps to undercut the concern that she lacks compassion, Clinton mentioned “people” the most
- Obama came back to the “change” theme, using the word almost as much as “time”
- Clinton used “give” frequently, in the sense of giving people opportunity.
That’s my take. What’s yours?
Clinton’s remarks come first, followed by Obama’s:
