et al.: that’s my boy!!

Oops! just popped the buttons on my shirt, burstin’ with pride about my first-born, Major Alexander Stephenson, who the Boston Globe profiled this Sunday in their West regional edition.
They did it because of the Soldiers Helping Those in Need-Iraq program to buy new blankets (come on, folks, who can’t afford $6.75??) which volunteer troops then distribute to poor Iraqis.
My son reports that in the few days since the Globe piece ran, they’ve had 200 more orders for blankets — compared to 3700 until then. One of my son’s medics, Sgt. Steve J. Stephens, dreamed the program up, and my son took it over when Stephens came home.
No matter what we may think about the war, this is a tangible way you and I can aid the poorest of the poor in Iraq. No reports of purchases by the family living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
