Please help me spread word on emergency communication in storms

Hello from the freezing Hub of the Universe. Looking at the weather map, I assume you’re likely to find yourself in the same large and frigid boat.

I’ve been scouring the media and emergency communication listservs for the past week, trying to find examples of how people in areas where power and phone lines are down are cobbling together innovative, ad hoc, peer-to-peer emergency communication networks to keep in touch, identify those in need of emergency assistance, and to share ideas on how to cope.

Haven’t heard of any (please let me know if you have, and I’ll spread the word).

That leads to an urgent request.

Please help me spread the word to your family, friends, co-workers, and social networks ASAP about my “21st-century disaster tips you WON’T hear from officials,” (BTW, I’ll try to update this list today to include some of the tips I’ve developed since it was published, such as using Twitter for short and sweet messages) and the accompanying YouTube videos.
