et al.: Mighty Casey has struck out
By WDavidStephenson | December 13, 2007
As you are no doubt aware, John Cheever had it right: “baseball is the thinking man’s [and, if it’s in Boston, at least, where Sox Mania is egalitarian, woman’s as well] sport.”
Having established that fact, it’s a sad day for those of us who love The National Pastime that so many supposedly top players have been named in Sen. Mitchell’s report (hey, maybe Gagne’s stopped taking steroids, since he’s obviously totally lost it — good luck, Brewers! — and we owe Dan Duquette an apology: the Rocket really was in the twilight of his career, until he figured out how to prolong it artificially …).
As a parent, thank goodness he’s blown the whistle on these bums so that kids won’t be as likely to follow their example.
Mighty Casey has struck out, but at least he wasn’t juiced.
