Flight 93, te salutamus! What this blog and my work are all about
By WDavidStephenson | September 11, 2007
I’m spending the morning analyzing the draft National Response Framework. Why am I not surprised? so far, I’ve found no mention of a substantive role for you and me — just the normal bromides:
“Individuals, families and caregivers to those with special needs should enhance their awareness of risk and threats, develop family emergency plans that include care for pets and companion animals and prepare emergency supply kits. Individuals can also volunteer in their communities. “
Gag me with a spoon…
Meanwhile, while remembering all the 9/11 victims, in light of this blog and my work’s emphasis on the substantive role the public can and must play in anti-terror preparation and response, I choose to pay tribute to the 45 heroes of Flight 93.
They’re what this blog and my networked homeland security approach is all about: the fewest in number, they were the only ones who really knew what was happening — with “situational awareness” provided by their cellphones — and they acted. Heaven only knows what the toll in DC would have been, not only in numbers but also in loss of national landmarks, if they had not been the embodiment of swarm intelligence, creating an ad hoc plan that worked.
Te salutamus!
