Just posted another YouTube tip: put medical records on thumb drive!
By WDavidStephenson | September 7, 2007
I’ve just posted another YouTube “21st-century disaster tip.”
This one deals with electronic medical records.
Remember how many Katrina victims suffered even more because their medical records were either damaged or destroyed?
Driven both by that human tragedy and by the need to streamline medical record keeping in general (a win-win if I’ve ever seen one!), more and more medical practices will now allow you to download all or selected parts (especially medications) of your medical records.
Transfer them to a thumb drive (being careful to encrypt them to avoid prying eyes), and your records will be available to caregivers no matter where you are in a disaster!
Please pass this and the other YouTube “21st century disaster tips” on to your family and friends — they can save lives, but only if people are aware of them! Thanks!
(PS: if you know how to embed a YouTube link in a WordPress file, please contact me: every time I embed the link, it ends up in my sidebar instead of the post …..)
